NASHVILLE – Tennessee State women's basketball saw strong production from its reserves and continued growth from its young frontcourt on Thursday night, ultimately falling 81–51 to Chattanooga inside the Gentry Center.
The Lady Tigers (1–8) were led by freshman post player Laila Lancaster, who turned in an efficient 14-point performance to go along with two steals. Erin Martin delivered another impactful outing off the bench, finishing with nine points, six rebounds, two steals, and two blocks. Somah Kamara added five points and two steals while helping spark TSU's defensive pressure.
Tennessee State's bench supplied 29 points, providing consistent energy on both ends. The Lady Tigers made their presence felt on the offensive glass, collecting 12 offensive rebounds—four from Martin—and converting those opportunities into 11 second-chance points.
Defensively, TSU forced 16 Chattanooga turnovers and recorded five blocks as a team, showing strong activity in the paint. The Lady Tigers opened the second quarter on a 5–0 run capped by an Aaniya Webb three and later pieced together a 6–0 run in the third, continuing to battle throughout the night while generating points off takeaways.
Tennessee State will look to build on the strides made in ball movement—assisting on 61 percent of its made field goals—and the steady production from its bench as it moves forward in non-conference play.
