COOKEVILLE, TN -- Travis Harper's 9 three pointers led the Tennessee State men's basketball team to a 88-76 win against the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles on the road Tuesday.
The Tigers (8-5, 2-1) had four players score in double figures, led by Travis Harper II, who had 29 points. Antoine Lorick III added 15 points and Dante Harris chipped in as well with 14 points, seven rebounds, nine assists and three steals.
Tennessee State shared the ball well in Tuesday's game, racking up 24 assists on 34 made field goals. Harris' nine assists paced the Tigers and Aaron Nkrumah also helped out with six assists of his own.
The Tennessee State defense was effective at taking away the basketball in Tuesday's game, forcing 15 Tennessee Tech turnovers while committing 11. Those takeaways turned into 23 points on the offensive end of the floor. Nkrumah led the way individually for the Tigers with four steals.
How It Happened
After falling behind 19-12, Tennessee State went on a 12-0 run with 10:42 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Jalen Pitre, to take a 24-19 lead. The Tigers then added six points to that lead by the end of the period and entered halftime with a 44-33 advantage. Tennessee State relied on its three-point shooting in the period, knocking down eight shots to account for 24 of its 44 points.
Tennessee State kept its lead intact before going on a 6-0 run to grow the lead to 86-71 with 1:33 to go in the contest. The Golden Eagles narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Tigers still cruised the rest of the way for the 88-76 win. Tennessee State shot well from three-point range in the half, hitting six shots from deep to score 18 of its 44 points.
