NASHVILLE — In a tribute to service and sacrifice, Tennessee State University proudly announces the nomination of Briana Salters for the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) Hoops for Heroes initiative. This program honors veterans who have demonstrated outstanding commitment to their country and community by providing them with a special experience at the OVC Basketball Tournament.
Briana Salters enlisted in the U.S. Air Force Reserve in October 2020 and currently serves as a Senior Airman with the 94th Aeromedical Staging Squadron at Dobbins Air Reserve Base in Marietta, Georgia. She is also an Air Force ROTC cadet at Tennessee State University, where she is pursuing a degree in Health Sciences with a concentration in Therapeutic Studies. Beyond her military and academic commitments, Briana is an active leader on campus.
She volunteers as a campus tour guide for prospective students and their families, serves as a university ambassador, and participates in multiple student service organizations. A lifelong athlete, she has engaged in cheer, soccer, track, and 5Ks, with a passion for basketball stemming from her high school cheerleading career. Her dedication to service, leadership, and athletics makes her a standout student-veteran within the TSU community.
Each year, OVC member schools raise funds to honor a chosen veteran at the OVC Basketball Tournament. The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) selects a representative and invites them to attend the tournament as an honored guest. TSU SAAC is proud to nominate Briana for this prestigious recognition. The $500 raised will provide a comprehensive package for our nominee, including a two-night hotel stay in Evansville, Indiana, 2-4 tickets for the semifinal and championship basketball games, a Visa gift card, and hospitality passes for a memorable tournament experience. The OVC Hoops for Heroes campaign seeks to spotlight the incredible stories of veterans like Senior Airman and Cadet Briana Salters, emphasizing their immeasurable contributions to both the nation and the TSU community.
Tennessee State University Athletics is committed to excellence in academics, athletics, and service. Through initiatives like Hoops for Heroes, TSU Athletics and the OVC continues to support and recognize individuals who make a lasting impact both on and off the field.
