Softball Falls to Lindenwood 6-5 in 10 innings

ST. CHARLES, Mo. — The Tennessee State softball team fell 6-5 in a 10-inning matchup to Lindenwood on Friday.

Tianna Salcido (1-4) came out of the bullpen for Tennessee State (12-9, 3-3 OVC) and took the loss. The right-hander went 3.1 innings, giving up one run on three hits, allowing one walk and striking out two. Reina Castillo was a bright spot for the Tigers, starting the ballgame and throwing 5.2 innings, giving up two runs, one earned, on eight hits, with one walk and two strikeouts.

At the plate, the Tigers were paced by Jace Jackson, who went 1-for-4 on the day with a double and three RBI. Jasmine Blackburn put together a noteworthy day at the plate as well, going 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI. JaKeyla McDaniel also contributed for Tennessee State, putting together one hit in four trips to the plate while adding a walk and an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Tigers got on the scoreboard first, starting in the second inning. Tennessee State plated two runs off of Lindenwood pitching, one of which was driven in on a run-scoring double off the bat of Blackburn.

After the Lions rallied to tie the ballgame at two, the Tigers came back to retake the lead in the sixth inning. Jackson's bases-clearing double was the offense in a three-run inning for Tennessee State, which brought the score to 5-2 in favor of the Tigers. The Tigers were unable to hold the lead, as Lindenwood scored four times over the remaining four innings to grab the 6-5 win.
