Charleston, Ill. – The Tennessee State men's tennis team started Horizon League play with an impressive 5-2 victory over Eastern Illinois on Saturday morning at Darling Courts. The Tigers dominated in singles play, winning five of six matches to secure their third win of the season.
TSU opened the match with a strong showing at No. 1 doubles, where Tatenda Mutetwa and Rohan Loubser controlled their matchup against Alex Aldaz and Ludolph Wiggett, cruising to a 6-2 victory.
However, Eastern Illinois answered back, taking the other two doubles contests to claim the doubles point. Tyler Carlin and Zach White topped Taj Hibbert and James Adler Germinal 6-2 at No. 2, while Pieke Bouman and Duarte Trocado secured a 6-3 win over Alexander Adamec and Jonasz Dziopak at No. 3 doubles.
Despite losing the doubles point, TSU rebounded in singles with a dominant performance.
The Tigers quickly turned the tide in singles, winning five straight-set matches to secure the team victory.
At No. 1 singles, Jonasz Dziopak was in control from start to finish, defeating Pieke Bouman 6-3, 6-2 to put TSU on the board. Taj Hibbert followed with an equally strong performance at No. 2, rolling past Alex Aldaz 6-1, 6-3.
Nicholas Adamec delivered another crucial win at No. 4, taking down Ludolph Wiggett 6-4, 6-1, while his brother, Alexander Adamec, battled through a tiebreaker at No. 5, edging out Tyler Carlin 6-4, 7-6 (9).
Christopher Bogelin closed out TSU's singles dominance with a commanding 6-2, 6-2 victory over Duarte Trocado at No. 6.
The only singles loss for TSU came in a marathon match at No. 3. James Adler Germinal fought through three grueling sets against Zach White, ultimately falling 7-6 (7), 1-6, 7-5 in one of the most competitive matches of the day.
