Softball Completes Morehead State Sweep With 12-2 Win

NASHVILLE — Tennessee State softball received contributions from every part of their lineup, as all nine starters reached base safely, helping the Tigers put 12 runs on the board and complete the sweep over Morehead State 12-2 Sunday.

Tianna Salcido (3-4) got the win out of the bullpen for Tennessee State (18-9, 8-3 OVC). The right-hander went 2.2 shutout innings, giving up three hits.

Offensively, the Tigers were paced by Hailey Hunt, who went 2-for-2 on the day with a triple, a walk and two RBI. Kailyn Jean-Baptiste compiled a standout day at the dish as well, going 1-for-2 with a double, a walk and three RBI. Alexis Woods also chipped in for Tennessee State, putting together two hits in three trips to the plate while adding two RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Tigers were trailing 1-0 in the first inning when they first put runs on the board. Tennessee State got an RBI single from Anayah Baker-Rowell, scoring Jace Jackson from second base.

The Eagles then scored one run to retake their advantage heading into the second inning, when the Tigers responded by getting back on the scoreboard themselves. Hunt came across to score the lone run of the inning for Tennessee State, which evened the score at 2-2.

That 2-2 tie turned into an 8-2 Tennessee State lead in the third. The Tigers bats heated up in the inning, scoring six runs, including a two-run single off the bat of Makayla Duke and a two-run single from Hunt.

Tennessee State held the Eagles without a run before their offense got back in action the next inning. The Tigers scored four runs in the inning, highlighted by a two-run double off the bat of Jean-Baptiste, bringing the Tennessee State advantage to 12-2. The score remained 12-2 for the rest of the game, as the Tigers coasted to the win.
