EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. --The Tennessee State softball put together a furious comeback, but Anna Henderson completed the sweep on the ninth inning for SIUE in a 10-9 deficit on Sunday.Â
Olivia Calderone (0-1) took the loss in the circle for Tennessee State (20-13, 10-7 OVC).
At the plate, the Tigers were led by Jace Jackson, who went 3-for-5 on the day with a triple and an RBI. Calderone put together a noteworthy day at the dish as well, going 1-for-2 with a double and two RBI. Jasmine Blackburn also contributed for Tennessee State, putting together one hit in three trips to the plate while adding two RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Tigers were trailing 5-0 in the third inning when they first put runs on the board.
The Tigers deficit grew to 8-3 before their offense got back on the scoreboard, tying the score in the sixth inning. The Tennessee State offense exploded for five runs, highlighted by a two-run single off the bat of Blackburn and a two-run double from Calderone, which evened the score at 8-8.
SIUE broke that tie and took a 9-8 lead moving into the seventh, when Tennessee State tied the game at nine. SIUE then scored one time over the remaining two innings to break the tie and grab the 10-9 win.
