NASHVILLE --The Tennessee State softball team was unable to score a run against Middle Tennessee pitcher Tori Coffman on Tuesday despite recording five hits and were shut out 2-0 by the Blue Raiders.
Reina Castillo (14-7) started and took the loss in the circle for Tennessee State (20-18). The right-hander went seven innings, giving up two runs, both of them earned, on five hits, allowing four walks and striking out three.
At the plate, the Tigers were paced by Jace Jackson, who went 2-for-3 on the day. Hailey Hunt put together a standout performance at the dish as well, going 2-for-3.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Tennessee State did not advance a runner past second base in the game. The Tigers went 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position, last placing a runner as far as second in the fifth, when Jackson made it into scoring position with two outs.
