MARTIN, Tenn — The Tennessee State softball team was unable to record a run against UT Martin pitcher junior Ashtyn Green on Sunday despite totaling seven hits and were shut out 6-0 by the Skyhawks.
Freshman Olivia Calderone (0-2) started and took the loss in the circle for Tennessee State (21-20, 11-12 OVC). Reina Castillo was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going 4.1 innings, surrendering one run on five hits, walking none and striking out three.
Offensively, the Tigers were paced by freshman Alexis Woods, who went 3-for-3 on the day. Freshman Jace Jackson put together a noteworthy effort as well, going 1-for-3 with a double.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Tennessee State managed zero chances with runners on third in the shutout, going a total of 1-for-5 with runners in scoring position. The Tigers last got a runner on third in the seventh, when Onnika Spencer made it 60 feet away from scoring with two outs.
