NASHVILLE — Tennessee State University head football coach announced the promotion of Dexter Jackson to Assistant Head Coach / Defensive Backs / Passing Game Coordinator for the 2026 season. Jackson previously served as the Tigers' safeties coach during the 2025 campaign.

Under Jackson's leadership last season, TSU's secondary showed steady growth, finishing the year with six interceptions, 38 pass breakups and nine fumble recoveries. His unit played a key role in the Tigers' defensive improvement, particularly in limiting explosive plays and creating turnovers.

A former NFL safety and Super Bowl MVP, Jackson brings a championship pedigree and elite-level experience to the Tennessee State coaching staff. He was named Super Bowl XXXVII MVP after recording two interceptions in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' 48-21 victory over the Oakland Raiders. Jackson played 10 seasons in the NFL, primarily with Tampa Bay, and also spent time with the Arizona Cardinals and Cincinnati Bengals, totaling 17 interceptions and more than 450 tackles during his professional career.

Jackson starred collegiately at Florida State from 1995 to 1998, earning second-team All-ACC honors as both a junior and senior. He concluded his Seminoles career with 194 tackles, seven interceptions, 16 pass breakups and four blocked field goals.

Following his playing career, Jackson transitioned into coaching and player development, working with collegiate programs and community organizations, including the Tampa Housing Authority, where he focused on youth mentorship and leadership development.

In his expanded role at Tennessee State, Jackson will oversee the defensive backs, coordinate the Tigers' passing game and serve as assistant head coach, continuing to bring his experience, leadership and championship mindset to the program.
