Softball Battles in Day One of Bucs Tourney

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. — Tennessee State softball continued nonconference action Thursday evening, taking on a nationally ranked East Tennessee State squad at Betty Basler Field.

The Lady Tigers recorded two hits in the contest, led by Jace Jackson, who finished 1-for-2 with a double down the left-field line in the fourth inning. Jackson advanced to third base later in the frame to put Tennessee State in scoring position.

Jasmine Blackburn reached base twice with a single and a walk while adding two stolen bases, continuing Tennessee State's aggressive approach on the basepaths. The Lady Tigers worked to create opportunities against a strong Buccaneers pitching staff despite limited offensive chances.

In the circle, Miriam Gordon and Tianna Salcido combined to face a challenging lineup. Gordon recorded two strikeouts in relief, while the Tennessee State defense turned a double play in the second inning.

Tennessee State will look to build on the experience gained against a top-ranked opponent as the Lady Tigers continue their road stretch.
