NASHVILLE — Tennessee State women's basketball showcased resilience and interior presence Saturday afternoon but fell 67–52 to SIUE at the Gentry Center Complex.
TSU received strong production from its bench, which contributed 17 points, and had two players reach double figures. Kiki Roberts led the way with an impressive double-double, totaling 16 points and 12 rebounds, including four offensive boards. Aaniya Webb added 11 points, while Amiyah Ferguson filled the stat sheet with two points, eight rebounds, and six assists.
The Tigers were active on the glass, collecting 12 offensive rebounds and turning them into nine second-chance points. Defensively, TSU limited SIUE to 32.9 percent shooting from the field and held Lauren Miller to 5-of-18 shooting.
How It Happened
TSU battled through a challenging first quarter, trailing 21–8 after the opening period.
The Tigers matched SIUE's energy in the second quarter, playing evenly over the 10-minute stretch to enter halftime trailing 34–21.
Out of the break, TSU made its push. The Tigers trimmed the deficit to 44–39 late in the third quarter following a 5–0 run capped by a Laila Lancaster basket. Tennessee State scored 10 of its 18 third-quarter points in the paint and carried momentum into the final frame.
In the fourth, TSU continued attacking inside and cut the deficit to nine points with 2:58 remaining after a 5–0 spurt highlighted by a Somah Kamara layup. Despite the late surge, SIUE closed out the contest down the stretch. Tennessee State finished with 28 points in the paint and 13 fast-break points.
