Women's Tennis Battle on Senior Day

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee State women's tennis team continued Ohio Valley Conference play Saturday afternoon, falling 7-0 to Southeast Missouri at the TSU Tennis Complex. Despite the final score, the Tigers showed competitive moments throughout singles and doubles action against a strong Redhawks squad.

SEMO secured the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. The pairing of Taylor Ellis and Claudia Murdasanu faced a tough matchup at the top flight, while Aroa Arrieta Castillo and Jovana Nikolic battled at No. 3 doubles. The No. 2 doubles match featuring Julie Tungamirai and Natalie Walsh remained tightly contested before going unfinished.

In singles play, Tennessee State continued to fight across the lineup, highlighted by strong opening-set performances. Castillo earned a convincing 6-2 first-set victory at No. 2 singles, while Nikolic pushed her opponent early at the top position before Southeast Missouri ultimately claimed the match.

Tungamirai and Murdasanu each delivered competitive first sets at No. 4 and No. 5 singles, keeping points close throughout extended rallies. Ellis also continued to battle at No. 6 singles as the Tigers worked to gain momentum against the conference opponent.

Tennessee State remains focused on building consistency as the team continues through the OVC schedule and prepares for upcoming conference competition.

The Tigers return to action next weekend as they head to the OVC Tournament.
