CHARLESTON, Ill. — Tennessee State softball wrapped up the 2026 season Saturday afternoon at Williams Field, falling in a doubleheader to Ohio Valley Conference champion Eastern Illinois. The Tigers conclude the year with a 2-38 overall record and a 2-25 mark in OVC play.
Game One — Eastern Illinois 15, Tennessee State 0 (5 innings)
Eastern Illinois used an early offensive surge to take control in the opening game, scoring in each of the first four innings to secure a 15-0 victory.
The Panthers struck quickly with a two-run home run in the first inning before adding six runs across the opening two frames. A four-run third inning, highlighted by a grand slam, extended the lead and put the game out of reach.
Tennessee State collected three hits in the contest, including a multi-hit effort from Hailey Hunt and a single from Dani James. The Tigers avoided defensive miscues, finishing the game without committing an error.
Miriam Gordon suffered the loss in the circle, while Karlie McKenzie earned the win for Eastern Illinois after tossing a complete-game shutout.
Game Two — Eastern Illinois 13, Tennessee State 0 (5 innings)
In the season finale, Eastern Illinois again capitalized on early opportunities, scoring three runs in the opening inning and erupting for six runs in the third to pull away for a 13-0 victory.
Alexis Woods and Noelani Wilkerson each recorded hits for Tennessee State, while the Tigers finished with three hits overall. Despite several defensive challenges late in the game, TSU continued to compete through the final outs of the 2026 campaign.
Tianna Salcido was charged with the loss, and Bryanna French earned the win for the Panthers.
Season Wrap-Up
The 2026 season marked a year of growth and perseverance for Tennessee State, featuring valuable experience gained by a young roster competing against one of the strongest schedules in the Ohio Valley Conference.
Throughout the spring, the Tigers showed resilience while continuing to build toward the future of the program. The season also highlighted individual milestones and development across the lineup as Tennessee State gained experience against conference championship-level competition.
