Anthony Lewis has joined the Tennessee State University football staff for the 2022 season as the offensive line coach after 10 seasons at Angelo State University.
Lewis spent his first three seasons as a student assistant and graduate assistant for Angelo State before joining the staff full-time as the Offensive Line Coach in 2017. While a graduate assistant, the San Antonio native helped with the offensive line and tight ends.
The Rams finished 11-3 in the 2021 season making it to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division II National Championship. Under Lewis' guidance, the Offensive Line helped pave the way for three All conference Running backs. The Rams finished the 2021 season averaging 224.8 rushing yards per game, which was first in the LSC and 11th nationally. The Rams offense also was first in the LSC and 21st nationally in total yards per game averaging 444.1 YPG. Lewis led one of the most Dominant Offensive Line units in Program history. The Rams had three offensive linemen named to the First-team All-LSC honors and first-and-second-team All-LSC Honors. He also helped Willis Patrick become one of the most decorated offensive lineman in ASU history. Under Lewis' guidance, Patrick finished the 2021 season first-team All-LSC, LSC Linemen of the Year, first-Team All-Super Region 4, and D2 All-American.
Lewis started his playing career at Cisco Junior College before joining Angelo State for the 2012 and 2013 seasons on the offensive line. He was a Don Hansen third-team All-Super Region Four selection and a first-team All-LSC selection in 2013. He helped the Ram offense break the ASU single-season record for total yards per game average with 457.9. Lewis helped pave the way for Kyle Washington to become the first player to pass for at least 2,000-yards and rush for at least 1,000-yards in a single season. In 2013, Lewis also helped ASU for the most rushing yards in a single season at 3,034 yards.
