Michael Brewster Head Shot 2022

Michael Brewster

Michael Brewster was hired as the tight ends coach in February of 2022 after spending two seasons as a quality control coach at the University of Cincinnati. Brewster joined former Ohio State teammate Marcus Freeman on UC's defensive coaching staff in 2020. He then moved to the offensive side of the ball in 2021.

Brewster began his coaching career as the offensive and defensive line coach at Orangewood Christian School in Maitland, Fla., in the fall of 2017. He then spent one season as a graduate assistant along the offensive line at Western Michigan and another at Bowling Green before heading to Cincinnati as a member of the defensive support staff in 2020.

Brewster, a team captain for the Buckeyes in 2011, was also voted a First Team All American, and a two-time All-Big Ten center during his career in Columbus. He then went on to play four years in the NFL before starting his coaching career.

During Brewster’s rookie season with the Jacksonville Jaguars, he started at offensive guard, a position he hadn’t played since high school. Andy Heck, a former first round draft pick and Super Bowl winning OL coach with the Kansas City Chiefs, was Brewster’s OL coach his rookie season. Brewster credits Heck with teaching him technique and fundamentals that allowed him to succeed at a position he hadn’t played in over four years. To this day, Brewster attributes a large part of his fundamentals and blocking philosophy to the teachings Heck taught him.

Brewster helped the Buckeyes win three Big Ten Conference titles (2008, 2009 and 2010), as well as wins in the Rose Bowl versus Oregon and the Sugar Bowl versus Arkansas. Brewster posted a 3-1 record versus Michigan.

Brewster started 49 consecutive games while at Ohio State.

Following his career at Ohio State, Brewster signed a free-agent contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars, playing for the franchise for two seasons (2012-14). He then went on to play for the Miami Dolphins and the New Orleans Saints before retiring due to injuries in 2017. He finished his NFL career with 10 starts and 26 games played.
