Kevin Mashack returned to Nashville in the summer of 2023 for his third stint as a Tiger, this time as the Director of Football Recruiting.
Mashack comes to TSU after spending the 2022 season as the Director of Player Personnel at Texas A&M. He joined Jimbo Fisher's staff in College Station after spending the 2021 season as the Director of Player Personnel and High School Relations at Indiana.Â
He previously coached Tennessee State from the spring of 2015 to 2021, after spending three years in the player personnel department for the Jacksonville Jaguars. Mashack's first coaching stint at TSU was from 2007-13.
In his first two seasons with the Tigers, Mashack headed the wide receiving unit which produced a preseason Ohio Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Year and two All-Americans. Patrick Smith is a two-time All-OVC selection and amassed 1,962 yards on 115 catches in his two seasons. Smith has scored 23 touchdowns in 21 games.
Steven Newbold and Chris Rowland were named HERO Sports FCS Freshman All-American under Mashack. Newbold finished 19th in the nation averaging 19.12 yards per reception while catching 41 passes for 784 yards. Rowland finished third on the team in receptions and earned honors for his duties as a return specialist.
Mashack was added to the Jaguars staff as a scouting assistant in May 2013. Mashack was responsible for the day-to-day operations of the player personnel department, watching and grading film and attending pro days to scout and evaluate players prior to the NFL Draft.
Mashack served two seasons (2011-12) as the running backs coach and one season with the tight ends (2010) at Tennessee State University, where he previously acted as the video coordinator after beginning as a student assistant in 2003. Mashack acted as the pro liaison, performed daily video responsibilities, and was instrumental in recruiting purposes.
During his time as the running backs coach, he helped coached All-American Trabis Ward who racked up 2,400 yards and 26 touchdowns under his guidance. Ward logged 978 yards and 11 touchdowns as a redshirt sophomore in 2011, while racking up 1,422 yards and 15 scores as a junior. In 2012, Ward earned All-OVC honors and was named to the College Sports All-American Team after recording 1,422 yards and 15 touchdowns. He finished his TSU career with 2,582 yards and 29 touchdowns, followed by a brief career in the NFL with the St. Louis Rams.
Mashack is a native of Miami, Florida, and graduated from Tennessee State in 2007 with a Bachelor of Arts and Science and a Masters in Sports Administration in 2009. He is married to the former Tiffany Gilliam.
