John Trondson

John Trondson was hired as an assistant coach at Tennessee State University in the fall of 2022 and was elevated to head coach in 2024. He brings more than 40 years of combined playing and coaching experience to the Tigers’ tennis program.

A former high school All-American at Mounds View High School in St. Paul, Minnesota, Trondson continued his playing career at Middle Tennessee State University, where he earned All-Conference honors. He has remained active in competitive tennis throughout his career, winning multiple USTA championships as an adult competitor.

Known for his passion for player development, Trondson emphasizes maximizing athletic performance while helping student-athletes grow into disciplined, goal-oriented, and successful individuals both on and off the court.

Trondson earned his bachelor’s degree from Metro State University in 1995. He and his wife, Laura, have been married for more than 30 years and have four children — Jake, who played tennis at the University of New Mexico; Taylor, who played at Belmont University; Paige, a graduate of the University of Tennessee; and Hank, who currently plays tennis at the University of Oklahoma. The Trondson family returned to the Middle Tennessee area seven years ago.
