Maggie Burton joined the Tennessee State University Athletic Training and Sports Medicine staff in July 2022. She serves as the athletic trainer for the football and women’s basketball programs.
Before arriving at Tennessee State, Burton spent two years as an Assistant Athletic Trainer at Radford University in Radford, Virginia. While at Radford, she worked with the Highlanders' volleyball, women’s basketball, men’s and women’s tennis, and cheer and dance programs while also assisting the men’s basketball.Â
In addition to her responsibilities at Radford, Burton was a member of the Virginia Athletic Trainer’s Association where she served as the social media chair and early professional committee chair for the Young Professionals committee. She also participated in the Virginia Athletic Trainer Leadership Development Program.
Prior to Radford, Burton spent three years as an assistant athletic trainer at The University of the South and was a preceptor for undergraduate students from Florida Gulf Coast University and graduate students from Eastern Kentucky University in their respective CAATE-accredited athletic training programs.
Burton was an athletic training student at Middle Tennessee State University where she worked with football, baseball, and softball. During her time in Murfreesboro, Burton was able to also observe surgeries and work with team physicians at Tennessee Orthopedic Alliance and did a rotation in the physical therapy department as well.
Burton graduated Cum Laude from Middle Tennessee State University in May of 2017 with a Bachelor of Science degree in athletic training. She graduated from Tennessee Technological University in May of 2020 with a Master of Arts degree in sport management. She is a current member of the National Athletic Trainer’s Association, Tennessee Athletic Trainer’s Society, and Southeastern Athletic Trainer’s Association.
Burton currently resides in Brentwood with her dog Sadie.
