The Tennessee State University
Tigers (2-5, 0-1) lost their Ohio Valley Conference opener, 102-95, in the Show
Me Center at Southeast Missouri (5-4, 1-0).
For the second consecutive game, TSU guard Bruce
Price led all scorers with 32 points. He also led the Tigers in rebounds (8)
and assists (7). Freshman guard Gerald Robinson tallied 31 points, 22 in the
second half, and senior LaDarious Weaver chipped in 11 points for other Tigers
in double-figures. Southeast Missouri had five players in double-figures, led
by Jaycen Herring who scored 21 points.
TSU took the early lead, 2-0
(19:38) after a steal and jumper by Gerald Robinson. SEMO reclaimed the lead to
move ahead 8-4 at the 17:33 mark. The Tigers went on a 7-3 run to move up 14-11
at 15:50, but the Redhawks outscored TSU 12-1 over the next 4:11 to take a
23-15 lead and command of the game. The Tigers closed the score to 41-39 at the
half on a layup by Bruce Price.
In the second half. The Redhawks
took control, lengthening their lead to as many as twelve points, 80-66 at
5:56, but TSU battled to within three points (88-91) with 1:19 remaining in the
game, but again, SEMO withstood the Tigers' charge to gain the win 102-95.
Bruce Price, for the second straight game, scored the game's final basket with
0:01 remaining.
The Tigers will next play at
Eastern Illinois on Saturday, December 8th.Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30p.
