Ames, Iowa - The Tennessee State University Tigers dropped their second game of the Chicago Invitational Challenge with an 84-53 loss to Iowa State at the Hilton Coliseum on Tuesday night (11/24).

The Tigers shot 37 percent from the floor moving to 0-4 on the year with Iowa State improving to 5-0.

Josh Sain scored a team high 12 points in the Tigers' efforts with Lonnie Funderburke pulling in a career high eight rebounds. Wil Peters added nine points and Erick Peguero added eight.

TSU's slow start played a major factor trailing 21-8 with 11:40 on the clock in the first half.  With 4:38 remaining, the Tigers fell behind, 35-15, but used an 11-5 run to close the half, trailing at the break, 40-26.

With a conscious effort at the end of the first half, TSU fell victim to a 21-4 run by the Cyclones in the opening minutes of the second. With ten minutes left in the game, the Tigers mustered a 13-9 run at the end but could not recover from the early deficit.

ISU shot 62 percent from the floor, 46 percent from behind the arc, and out-rebounded the Tigers, 39-28. The Cyclones were led in scoring by Marquis Gilstrap, Diante Garrett, Chris Brackins and Scott Christopherson. Gilstrap posted a game high 18 points with ten rebounds, Garrett scored 11 points and dished out seven assists, Brackins tallied 12 points with Christopherson chipping in 10.

The Tigers will take on Kennesaw State in their third game of the tournament at the UIC Pavilion on Friday (11/27) with tip-off scheduled for 12 p.m.

The Owls (2-2) have dropped two straight after opening the season with back-to-back wins. KSU fell to Saint Louis, 76-66, in their first game of the CIC. In game two, the Owls suffered an 80-62 loss to No.23 Notre Dame (11/24) at the Purcell Pavilion at the Joyce Center.

Kurtis Woods scored a team-high 18 points (13.7 ppg) for Kennesaw State, but it was Luke Harangody's 29 points and 15 rebounds that lifted the Fighting Irish. Markeith Cummings leads the Owls in scoring averaging 15 points per contest with John Michael Nickerson posting a 13 point average.

With a win, the Tigers will face the winner against Liberty and Mississippi Valley State. In event of a loss, TSU will match-up against the losing team of the Liberty/Mississippi Valley game.
