Nashville, Tenn. --- The Tennessee State University volleyball team defeated Murray State, 3-1, Friday night in Kean Hall.

Tennessee State dropped the first set before bouncing back to win three straight in the victory.

With the win, TSU (9-6, 5-3 OVC) moved out of a four-way tie for fourth place in the conference standings. MSU fell to 4-15 (5-3 OVC).

Shaquita Williams led TSU with 22 kills (.432) while Danielle Howell and Walker posted 12.

Erika Moss led the Tigers with 56 assists and 18 digs while Britani Hathorn (16), Calasia Williams (13) and Terakka Walker (10) also registered double-digit digs.

Cassy Woolverton was the only Murray State player to notch double-digits in kills with 11. Kayleah Sauer led the team with 18 digs.

After playing to an 8-8 tie, Murray State used a small run to go ahead 13-10. The Tigers answered and knotted the score at 13-all behind a kill from Shaquita Williams. The score was tied at 22 when two straight points from the Racers made the score, 24-22. A kill from Shaquita Williams pulled TSU to within one but MSU posted the next point to claim the 25-23 win.

TSU dominated the second set defeating MSU 25-16 to even the match. The Tigers hit .400 in the contest while registering 18 kills. The Racers were held to eight kills and a .179 hitting percentage.

The Tigers carried the momentum into the third frame behind a 5-1 run to open the set. The Racers rallied and evened the score at 19-all. From there the teams went point-for-point. With the set tied, 23-23, timely kills from Danielle Howell and Rachel Ambroch pushed TSU to the win.

In the fourth frame, the teams played to a 7-7 deadlock before TSU started to take control. Down the stretch, back-to-back kills from Rachel Ambroch and Shaquita Williams made the score, 21-15, in favor of TSU. The Tigers went on to win, 25-17.

The Tigers return to action tomorrow when they host Southeast Missouri at 2 p.m. in Kean Hall.
