Lafayette, La. --- The Tennessee State University softball
team concluded play at the Ragin' Cajun Tournament with a, 9-0, loss to No.16
Louisiana-Lafayette Sunday afternoon at Lamson Park.
Tennessee State (4-5) tallied two hits in the contest and
did not commit any errors while Louisiana-Lafayette (10-0) registered seven
hits and recorded one miscue in the game.
Aisha Walker went 2-of-3 at the plate, posting the Tigers'
only hits of the game while Caitlin Eaton (2-2) was charged with the loss for
Tennessee State.
Aisha Walker was the only Tiger to be named to the
All-Tournament team.
After the Tigers went down in order in the opening inning
the Ragin Cajuns used three walks and a double to right field to capture a,
3-0, lead in the bottom of the frame.
Tennessee State got on the board in the top of the third
when Brittany Davis crossed the plate. Davis reached base after being hit by a
pitch and advanced to third when Aisha Walker singled up the middle.
A wild pitch allowed Davis to move to third before she
scored on a fielding error by the first baseman.
TSU was trailing, 3-1, when UL posted six runs behind five
hits in the bottom of the fourth, to take a, 9-1, lead.
In the bottom of the fifth frame, Ashley Heinaman walked and
advanced to second behind another hit from Aisha Walker. With two outs, the
next batter grounded out to end the inning and game.
TSU returns to action on Wednesday, Feb. 23, when the Tigers
host Belmont University in the season home opener. The first game of the
double-header is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Tiger Field.
