HOW IT HAPPENED

Tennessee State started slow as Murray State went up 4-0 early in the first set. A set from Te'o to Henderson ended the streak and kicked the Tigers into gear. TSU finished the set with ten team kills, two aces, 18 digs, two blocks from Jordan and Fihaki, and a win under its belt, 25-20.

Murray State answered with three blocks and 22 digs, halting the Tiger offense to a .089 attack percentage. Te'o connected with Henderson for seven more kills to help Big Blue push for the set win, but Rachel Holthaus's accuracy helped the Racers to its first set, 25-22.

Big Blue returned defensively in the third set as the team combined for seven total blocks, led by Fihaki with four. Pierson held down the backcourt with seven digs, followed closely by Te'o with six and Rivera Ortiz with five. Combined with an effective offensive run, the Tigers defeated the Racers, 25-23.

Stat-wise, the Tigers out-played MSU in the fourth set. TSU recorded a match-high .227 attack percentage, 20 digs and two blocks. However, Murray State's two aces from libero Becca Fernandez and middle-blocker Kolby McClelland put the Racers over the top, 25-22.

Entering the final set, the teams battled point-for-point before the Racers ran – for six-straight points. Pierson answered with two kills, but MSU outlasted Big Blue's efforts finishing off the set, 15-11.
