NASHVILLE --- Tennessee State dropped its first two games of Ohio Valley Conference play against Southeast Missouri State on Saturday afternoon at Tiger Field. The Redhawks claimed the openers for both squads, 8-0 and 11-1.
Senior Erica O'Kane collected two hits for the Big Blue, while Bri Vire, Sarah Snell and Patton Akers each notched hits in game one. The Tigers were unable to piece the hits together as they were shutout by Redhawks pitchers, Haley Thogmartin and Rachel Rook.
Raven Loveless suffered the loss and moved to 4-4 after giving up six runs on six hits and two walks, while fanning five batters in 4.0 innings. Jessina Espinoza was touched for two runs on six hits, pitching in 3.0 innings of relief.
In game two, SEMO jumped out to a 6-0 lead before the Tigers could register their first hit of the contest in the fourth inning. Vire opened the frame with an infield single and scored two batters later on a wild pitch.
Espinoza (0-2) took the loss surrendered six runs, five earned, on seven hits and a walk.
