NASHVILLE --- The Tennessee State University women's basketball team fell to Belmont University, 83-35, Thursday night in the Curb Event Center.
TSU moved to 0-3 on the season and 0-1 in the OVC while Belmont improved to 2-1, 1-0 OVC.
The Lady Tigers were held to a season-low 35 points and struggled to find their rhythm against the Bruins.
Andreana Wrister led TSU in scoring with 12 points while
Taylor Roberts added 10.
Jaden Wrightsell pulled down a team-best nine rebounds.
"Obviously we're not very happy with the performance," said head coach
Ty Evans. "Belmont is arguably the best team in the league, they have been for the last four years, and we knew coming in, it was going to be a tough game but like I told the ladies, what I'm most disappointed in, is the effort. I asked them, "was there anything out there that Belmont did that you weren't prepared for?" And the answer was "no." So what happens now is… we're trying to teach them how to win and how to play a certain way. When you play against a team that's a good basketball team, the number one thing that sticks out is discipline. And when you're not a good basketball team, yet what happens is… when adversity hits you become undisciplined. So we're going to work on that. We're going to get back to work tomorrow. This was obviously a blow for us but we'll bounce back."
