NASHVILLE --- In a hard fought battle that took overtime to decide, the Tennessee State University women's basketball team fell to Georgia State, 88-83, in the home opener. 
Tennessee State moved to 0-2 while Georgia State improved to 1-1 on the season. 
The Lady Tigers led by as many as 14 points in the first half and despite giving up the lead in the second frame, still battled the entire night. In the final three minutes of the contest, GSU made timely buckets down the stretch to pull out the win.
Taylor Roberts led TSU with 28-points and registered eight rebounds in the contest. Andreana Wrister tallied 20 points while Jaden Wrightsell notched her 11thcareer double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Breannah McCullah also posted double-digits with 10 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • TSU got off to a good start and controlled the pace early on. 
  • The Lady Tigers moved ahead 31-20 on a bucket by Jaden Wrightsell and maintained the lead over the next several possessions. 
  • Taylor Roberts scored to make the game, 35-23, but the visitors used a 9-4 run to cut the lead down to 37-32 heading into halftime. 
  • The Panthers continued to carry the momentum into the second half and outscored the Lady Tigers to tie the game 41-41.
  • With 4:39 on the clock and the game tied at 50-all, GSU scored six unanswered points to go ahead, 56-50.
  • The Lady Tigers responded with six straight points of their own to pull even.
  • Breannah McCullah found Taylor Roberts streaking through the paint to give TSU the lead on the next possession. 
  • The teams traded basketball over the next several minutes. 
  • At the final media timeout, GSU had a slight, 66-63, advantage.
  • Two free-throws by Taylor Roberts followed by a triple from Andreana Wrister sparked a rally that put TSU back on top and forced a GSU timeout. 
  • GSU managed to regain the led and held a 76-75 edge with 20.4 seconds remaining.
  • With 2.9 seconds remaining, Taylor Roberts was fouled and made one free-throw to tie the game, 76-76. 
  • GSU's shot attempt was off the mark and the game went to overtime. 
  • The teams played to an 83-83 stalemate, with less than 50 seconds remaining. 
  • GSU grabbed the lead on the next play and TSU turned the ball over on its next trip down the floor. 
  • With 26.1 seconds remaining, the visitors carved out an 87-83 cushion.
  • TSU came up empty on the next possession and had to foul. 
  • GSU hit one of two free-throws to make the final score, 88-83. 
GAME NOTES
  • Jaden Wrightsell posted her 11thcareer double-double and first of the season. 
  • This was the first meeting between TSU and GSU since 1992.
  • The loss snapped TSU's two-game win streak over the Panthers. 
  • Taylor Roberts, Jaden Wrightsell and Andreana Wrister scored in double-digits for the second consecutive game.
