The Tennessee State University women's basketball team will hit the road to take on Jacksonville State on Thursday, Jan. 14. Game time is slated for 4:30 p.m. in Pete Mathews Coliseum.
 
THE LADY TIGERS AT A GLANCE
Tennessee State is looking for its first win of the season on Thursday. The Lady Tigers are coming off a 64-45 loss to Southeast Missouri at home on Saturday. The setback moved TSU to 0-7, 0-5 OVC. 
 
The TSU seniors have been the leaders for the squad. Taylor Roberts, who played for first time since Dec.10 in the last outing, is leading the team in scoring with 16.5 ppg while Andreana Wrister is turning in 14.1 ppg. Jaden Wrightsell is almost averaging a double-double with 10.4 ppg and 8.9 rpg. 
 
TSU is averaging 50.0 points per game while shooting 31.1 percent from the field and 19.0 percent from three-point range. The Lady Tigers are 5th in the OVC in offensive rebounds (13.0 rpg). 
 
The Lady Tigers are led by first year head coach Ty Evans.
 
LAST TIME OUT
TSU had a strong second half but still dropped a, 64-45, decision to Southeast Missouri in the Gentry Center. After falling behind by double-digits in the first half, TSU nearly matched SEMO point-for-point in the second period (35-30) but it was not enough to overcome the deficit. In the second half, TSU shot an impressive 42.3 percent from the field and 85.7 percent from the free-throw line. TSU also outrebounded SEMO 18-16 in the final 20 minutes. Taylor Roberts and Andreana Wrister led the Lady Tigers with 13 points each while Jaden Wrightsell had 12 points and eight rebounds.
 
ABOUT THE OPPONENT
Jacksonville State is off to a 3-1 start in OVC play and has won three straight. The Gamecocks were selected to finish the 2020-21 race in 6th place and currently ranks third in the league standings. 
 
LAST TIME THEY MET
Despite having a lead at halftime, TSU suffered a, 63-45, loss to Jacksonville State in the Gentry Center.  TSU trailed early but battled back to take a 30-25 lead at halftime. TSU built its lead up to 34-25 in the third quarter but then the offense went cold. The Lady Tigers got outscored, 24-8, in the third period and went into the final frame down, 49-38. The home team's struggles continued and TSU only managed to put up seven points in the fourth quarter. The Lady Tigers could never get back into a rhythm and only scored a total of 15 points in the second half. Jaden Wrightsell led TSU in scoring with 12 points and 16 rebounds for a double-double.
 
SERIES INFORMATION
TSU will meet Jacksonville State for the 39th time in the series history with the Gamecocks leading, 21-17. JSU has won seven straight. TSU's last win was a 64-51 victory on Jan. 21, 2017.
