INSIDE THE NUMBERS
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After Jaden Wrightsell used a nifty move to score in the paint to start the game, several empty possessions led to TSU falling behind, 10-2.
  • Andreana Wrister connected on a reverse layup before Kennedy Davis scored to pull to within six.
  • The score was 15-8 in favor of JSU when a three-pointer put the opponents on top by double-digits.
  • Buckets from Nijah Cunningham and Wrightsell briefly cut the deficit back down to single digits but the Gamecocks went back up by ten, 24-14, heading into the second quarter.
  • In the second period, two quick buckets by Wrister pulled the Lady Tigers to within six once again.
  • JSU went on a scoring drought but the TSU offense went cold and the Lady Tigers weren't able to capitalize.
  • JSU finally saw one go down and it sparked a 9-0 run that stretched the lead to, 33-18, and forced a TSU timeout.
  • Out of the break, Wrightsell scored in the paint to end a nearly five-minute scoring drought.
  • On the next play, Kennedy Davis forced a steal and had a breakaway layup to slice the lead down to 11 points.
  • The Gamecocks, however, outscored the Lady Tigers, 8-2 in the last three minutes to go ahead, 41-24, at halftime.
  • Jacksonville State used a 9-2 spurt to open the lead up to, 50-26, with about four minutes ticked off the clock.
  • Heading into the final stanza, TSU was trailing 61-36.
QUOTE
"We're starting to say some of the same things. We can't have those ebbs and flows in terms of effort. I didn't think the effort overall was bad, we just had those moments. When you're playing against a good team, those moments become 8-0 runs … 6-0 runs and eventually you're down 15-20 when at one point it was 24-18 and they went on a 9-0 run. If we could just cut out some of those runs from a lack of effort and not understanding time and score, I think we can put ourselves in a position to win." - Head Coach Ty Evans
