Hickbottom Named OVC Football Offensive Player of the Week

NASHVILLEGeremy Hickbottom secured his second OVC Football Offensive Player of the Week award this season after a fantastic performance in TSU's 27-21 win over Murray State on Saturday. 

Hickbottom accounted for 246 yards of total offense and four touchdowns as Tennessee State topped Murray State 27-21 to win its fourth-straight game (the longest winning streak for the program since 2016). The Grambling transfer completed 17-of-29 passes for 159 yards and a touchdown and carried the ball nine times for 87 yards (9.7 ypc) and three additional touchdowns. Hickbottom ran for an eight-yard touchdown in the second quarter, the only points for either team in the first half. After the Big Blue forced a MSU turnover on the opening drive of the second half, Hickbottom ran for a 65-yard touchdown and four minutes later threw a 24-yard touchdown to give his team a 21-0 advantage. After the Racers tied the game with 4:30 to play, Hickbottom led the team on an 8-play, 62-yard drive which he capped with a seven-yard score.

His three rushing touchdowns are the most for a Tiger quarterback since Antonio Heffner in 2006. Hickbottom has had multiple rushing TD's in consecutive games. and ranks 16th nationally in passing yards/completion (13.53), 25th in rushing touchdowns (7) and 29th in passing efficiency (139.8) and points responsible for/game (14.0).

TSU will travel to take on OVC leader UT Martin on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m.
