NASHVILLE – The Tennessee State women's basketball team fell to Nebraska-Omaha on Thursday afternoon, 67-56.
Gia Adams led the team with a game-high 17 points, converting 4-of-6 at the free-throw line.
Adams, a freshman from Houston, Texas, has started in all seven games and set her career-high in points against the Mavericks.
Dominique Claytor posted four points, eight rebounds and five assists.
Claytor, a graduate transfer from East Carolina, has secured at least five rebounds in every game this year.
Elise Harden added eight points, six rebounds, two blocks and two steals.
The defense has been a key to success for the Tigers this year. Entering the contest, TSU ranked 2
nd in the NCAA in steals per game (15.7). Tennessee State registered 18 steals against Omaha, leading to 21 points off turnovers. It was the fourth game this season in which the defense has secured 18+ steals. Five different Tigers logged multiple steals, while
Saniah Parker swiped five steals.
Parker, a freshman from Huntsville, Ala., has recorded multiple steals in six of seven games, including five thefts in three separate games.
Nebraska-Omaha dominated the paint as they out-scored TSU inside, 38-20 In addition, the Mavericks grabbed nine more rebounds than the Tigers, 45-36. Omaha was led by Mariah Murdie, who posted a double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds. Kennedi Grant rattled off a double-double as well, with 13 points and 11 rebounds in only 20 minutes of action.
The Tigers will return home on Sunday afternoon, tip-off scheduled for 1:00 p.m. against Mercer. The game will be streamed live on ESPN+.
