NASHVILLE --- In a competitive and hard-fought battle that wasn't decided until the final three minutes, the Tennessee State University women's basketball team fell to Belmont, 68-52, Monday night in the Gentry Center.
The final score wasn't indicative of the contest as it was a three to six-point game for most of the competition. The score was 57-50 in favor of Belmont with about five minutes remaining but TSU struggled to score down the stretch.
Andreana Wrister led TSU with 22 points and went 6-of-8 from three-point range while
Jaden Wrightsell pulled down a team-high seven rebounds.
TSU shot 42.9 percent from the field and a scorching 53.3 percent from three-point range

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both teams shot better than 40 percent from the field and three-point range in the opening quarter.
- The first period was a back-and-forth battle that saw Belmont claim a slight, 21-19, edge after ten minutes.
- In the second quarter, empty possessions and turnovers led to TSU falling behind 26-19 with 7:35 on the clock.
- TSU used a timeout in an attempt to halt the BU run.
- Out of the break, the home team still struggled to find the bottom of the net and the scoring drought continued for another three minutes.
- The Lady Tigers were able to stay within striking distance though because the Bruins went without a score for nearly six minutes.
- BU finally hit a three-pointer to end its drought and extended the lead to 29-19.
- TSU scored its first points of the quarter with 56 seconds on the clock behind a three-pointer from Amber Appiah-Kubi.
- The Lady Tigers were outscored 11-5 in the quarter and went into the break trailing, 32-24.
- The Lady Tigers used a 5-0 spurt to start the second half and pulled to within three, 32-29.
- BU answered on the other end to go back up by six.
- Amber Appiah-Kubi drained her second three-pointer of the game to close the gap, 39-36, but the visitors made two free-throws to move back ahead by five.
- Andreana Wrister connected from long range to make the score, 44-42, but Belmont posted four straight to capture a 48-42 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
- The teams traded buckets in the fourth quarter and Belmont led, 57-50, at the final media timeout.
- An untimely scoring drought hit TSU and BU stretched the lead to 62-50 with 2:05 remaining.
GAME NOTES
- Andreana Wrister made a career-high six three pointers and scored a career-high 22 points.
- Wrister scored in double-digits for the 11thtime this season.
- Jaden Wrightsell now has 574 total rebounds and ranks 11thon TSU's all-time leading rebounders list.
- Taylor Roberts was held to single-digits in scoring for the first time this season.
