NASHVILLEÂ Â ---Â The Tennessee State University women's basketball team battled the entire night but saw the game slip away down the stretch in a, 74-62, loss to Eastern Kentucky Saturday afternoon in the Gentry Center.Â
TSU was trailing by four points when EKU used a 15-2 run to grab a 71-54 lead. The Lady Tigers outscored the Colonels 8-3 in the final two minutes but the rally was not enough to overcome the deficit.Â
Taylor Roberts finished the game with 19 points, five rebounds, two assists and one steal.
Andreana Wrister tallied 10 points, seven assists and six rebounds in the contest.
TSU shot nearly 40 percent from the field (23-of-58) and knocked down 85.7 percent (12-of-14) from the free-throw line.Â

HOW IT HAPPENED
- TSU called a timeout after EKU jumped out to a 10-2 lead early in the first quarter.Â
- The Colonels extended the advantage to 12-2 until a layup by Taylor Roberts sparked a 10-0 run by the Lady Tigers that tied the game 12-12.Â
- From there the teams traded buckets and EKU had a slight, 19-17 lead at the end of the first quarter.Â
- In the second period, it was a closely contest battle between both teams.Â
- EKU managed to build a 24-20 lead but TSU answered with five straight points to take the lead, 25-24.Â
- Over the next several possessions there were five lead changes.Â
- The Lady Tigers were down, 35-34, when two EKU three-pointers within the final 58 seconds gave the Colonels a 41-34 lead at halftime.Â
- In the third stanza, TSU started with an empty possession then gave up a three on the other end to fall behind by double-digits, 44-34.Â
- At the media timeout, the score was 49-38, in favor of EKU.
- TSU continued to battle and pulled to within two with eight minutes left to play.Â
- The Lady Tigers were behind, 56-52, when the Colonels went on a 15-2 run over a span of four and a half minutes.Â
- TSU scored the last two buckets of the game to make the final score, 74-62.
