NASHVILLE --- The Tennessee State volleyball team went 0-2 in its home opener on Sunday in Kean Hall against Austin Peay.
Due to the possibility of inclement weather the Tigers moved its 6 p.m. Sunday match to 11 a.m. and its 5 p.m. Monday match to Sunday at 4 p.m.
The Tigers (0-4) were in search of its first victory of the season in front of its limited home crowd, while the Govs (4-0) looked to continue its hot streak from week one versus Tennessee Tech.
Big Blue kicked off the afternoon on a hot streak. The Tigers led by 11, 17-6, with its sights on a 1-0 advantage that was just eight points away. The Govs recouped and fought back for a 27-25 set one victory.
Set two flew by with minimal errors as APSU improved to 2-0 with a 25-14 set two score. T
he Tigers final set proved to be their best, remaining even for 24 points, 12-12. The Govs began to slowly pull away with three-three-point runs. Big Blue answered with its own thanks to
Kendall Bullock's (10 kills) work on the right side, 21-17. A few TSU errors helped Austin Peay to its third season victory, 25-19.
APSU's Brooke Moore, Tegan Seyring and Chloe Stitt had with a combined 35 kills in match one – Seyring hitting a team-best 68.8 percent.
After a short break, the teams were back on the court for match two of the doubleheader.
The Governors kicked off the second match with 3-0 start and held on to the lead over the first two sets. The Tigers attempted a comeback in the final set going point-for-point with the Peay. Bullock and
Aniya Williams led the Tigers in a comeback in the final set, going point-for-point with Moore and Stitt before accuracy and a breakdown on defense ended the night with a sweep.
