Tennessee State opened the season by dropping all three games to North Alabama. The Tigers will look to bounce back with a five game schedule at the River City Classic. TSU will open with one of two meetings with Alcorn State. The two teams split a pair of games a season ago during the opening weekend. The Big Blue earned two wins over Jackson State the last time they faced each other in 2017. The matchups with Grambling will be the first since TSU's 12-6 victory in 2015.

Sophomore Ivory Jones led the offense with four hits, a home run, three runs batted in and a .444 batting average. Transfer Renae Spears batted .429, going 3-for-7 with a walk and a run, while Bri Vire hit a .300 clip with a double and an RBI. A pair of freshmen Tigers earned picked up their first extra base hit of their careers. Rayne Gray ripped a double ahead of an RBI triple by Peyton Fointno.

The Tigers dropped a pair of games to Ohio Valley Conference member Eastern Illinois and two more to Southern Miss to start the 2021 campaign. JSU is led by Brianna Simms-Johnson who is 2-for-10 with a double, a walk and a run scored. Samiah Huckabee is batting .250, going 2-for-8 with a double and a run, while Alexis Arredondo is 1-for-7 with two walks and two RBI.
