Morehead, Ky.  --- The second quarter proved to be the difference for the Tennessee State women's basketball team in a hard fought, 60-52, loss to Morehead State Thursday night in Johnson Arena.
The opening quarter was a battle but after suffering a six-plus minute scoring drought in the second period, TSU had to play from behind. The Lady Tigers outscored the Eagles 18-13 in the third and nearly matched the opponent point-for-point in the final 10 minutes but it was not enough to get over the hump.
Taylor Roberts led TSU in scoring with 18 points and had five steals in the contest.
Andreana Wrister had 14 points while
Jaden Wrightsell tallied 12 points and a career-high seven steals.Â

HOW IT HAPPENED
- TSU had six turnovers in the first quarter but used its defensive pressure to force MSU into eight miscues.Â
- Despite the turnovers by both teams, the opening quarter was competitive.Â
- TSU had a slight, 16-15 lead when MSU scored five straight to take a 20-16 lead.
- In the second period, a three-pointer by Taylor Roberts pulled TSU to within two but the Eagles answered with a 10-1 run to go up, 32-23.
- TSU went without a score for the last 6:17 of the second quarter.Â
- The Lady Tigers ended up getting outscored 14-7 in the stanza and trailed, 34-23, at halftime.Â
- In the third quarter, Coach Ty called a timeout after TSU fell behind, 39-25.Â
- The Lady Tigers responded out of the break as TSU outscored MSU, 8-2, to close the gap to, 41-33.Â
- The Eagles regained an 11 point lead but a three-point bucket from Andreana Wrister sparked a rally the made it a five-point game.Â
- TSU outscored MSU 18-13 in the third period and trailed, 47-41, heading into the final 10 minutes of action.Â
- The opponents used an 8-2 run fueled by two triples that extended the lead back up to double-digits.Â
- MSU knocked down another three-pointer on its next possession to go ahead, 58-43 with about five minutes remaining.
- TSU had been outscored, 11-4, up to that point.Â
- Wrister connected on her third triple of the game to pull TSU to within 10.
- TSU continued to fight and cut it to single digits with 2:12 on the clock.Â
- The opponents, however, were able to keep the Lady Tigers at bay.Â
