NASHVILLE --- Tennessee State University football announced the addition of former National Football League (NFL) veteran and University of Tennessee wide receiver Peerless Price as a volunteer coach for the 2021 spring season.

"Peerless will be a great addition to the staff," Head Coach Rod Reed said. "He has played the game at a high level collegiately and professionally. He will provide a wealth of knowledge to this staff and we're glad to have him aboard."

Price played nine seasons in the NFL after being selected in the second round, 53rd overall, in the 1999 draft by the Buffalo Bills. During his professional career, the wide receiver caught 403 passes for 5,281 yards and 31 touchdowns. Price was selected as an alternate for the Pro Bowl following his 2002 season with the Bills when he finished with 94 receptions for 1,252 yards and nine touchdowns.

Price was traded to the Atlanta Falcons in 2003 where he played two years before joining the Dallas Cowboys in 2005. Price returned to Buffalo and retired after suffering a season ending injury in 2007.

"Preparation is the separation," Price said. "That's the way I've always went about life. If you don't prepare you are preparing to fail. With that in mind I just feel like I need to invest and prepare the next generation of young people. Preparing them for the game of life and what it takes to be a successful athlete and human being."

Price played collegiately for Tennessee from 1995-98. The Dayton, Ohio native helped the Volunteers claim the 1998 National Championship where he scored the deciding touchdown in UT's 23–16 victory over Florida State in the Fiesta Bowl. Price caught four passes in the game for 199 yards and was named the game's co-MVP.

"Sports are a great teacher of all things one will encounter in life," Price stated. "I know the man on top of anything didn't just fall there. He or she works their tails off to get there. You have to be able to reach young people on a level that you can get the most out of them no matter what their skill set is! Get them to be the best version of themselves every single day and I believe I can do that!! It's a gift and I believe I was blessed with that gift."

During his career, Price hauled in 147 receptions for 2,298 yards and 19 touchdowns.

"I'm thrilled that Peerless is joining the Tiger Family," said Dr. Mikki Allen, Director of Athletics. "Peerless has an unbelievable passion for the game and knows what it takes to be great. He brings a championship mentality and played with a high-level of confidence. The fact that Peerless will be able to transfer his experience and knowledge of the game will pay huge dividends. It speaks volumes for our program to have two NFL Pro Bowlers with Peerless and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie to help mentor and develop our young men."
