Women’s Basketball Season in Review

  • The Tennessee State University women's basketball team, like other institutions in the nation, had to face an additional opponent in 2020-21 as COVID-19 was a steady and persistent foe all season long. 
  • The Lady Tigers were led by first year head coach Ty Evans
  • TSU managed to compete in all 20 of the scheduled OVC games while facing two non-conference opponents. 
  • Tennessee State had three players that averaged double-digits in scoring. 
  • TSU averaged 50.3 ppg while ranking 8thin the OVC in steals and turnover margin.
  • Senior Taylor Roberts led TSU with 14.7 points per game while shooting a team-best 89.6 percent from the free-throw line and 48.2 percent from the field. 
  • Roberts also amassed her 1,000thcareer point as a senior and now ranks 14th among TSU's all-time leading scorers with a total of 1,133 points. 
  • Senior Andreana Wrister finished the season as the second leading scorer (14.5 ppg) and tallied a team-high 318 points this season. She ranked 6thin the OVC in scoring, 15thin assists, 6thin three-point field goal percentage, 3rdin made three-pointers and 8thin minutes played. 
  • Senior Jaden Wrightsell averaged 10.6 ppg and a team-high 6.9 rebounds per outing. She ranked 7thin the OVC in overall rebounding, 8thin steals, 3rdin offensive rebounds and 26thin minutes played. 
  • Breannah McCullah finished her senior campaign as the team's fourth leading scorer (6.0 ppg). She led TSU and ranked 14thin the OVC in assists with 2.6 apg. She also ranked 13thin the league in blocked shots and 29thin minutes played. 
  • Kennedy Davis was named the OVC Freshman of the Week on January 5, 2021 after recording eight points and five rebounds at SEMO.
  • Taylor Roberts notched her 1,000thcareer point against SIUE on January 21, 2021.
  • Prior to the start of the season, former Tiger and NBA star Robert Covington announced that he would fund the construction of a new practice facility for the men's and women's basketball programs.
