Anayah Baker-Rowell delivered three extra base hits, including two home runs, on Saturday afternoon in Tennessee State's Ohio Valley Conference doubleheader at UT Martin. The power surge by the freshman was not enough as TSU dropped both ends of the twin bill, 9-2 and 5-2.
Baker-Rowell hit a ball off the scoreboard in left field in the third inning of both games and added an RBI double in the fifth inning of game one producing three of the Tigers four runs on the day.
Kennedy McCurry came off the bench in game two and hit a solo shot for the second run in the night cap for TSU.
The Skyhawks collected 25 hits off the Tigers pitching on the day to pace their day. The Big Blue used four pitchers on the afternoon with
Francys King and
Raven Loveless suffering the losses. King worked into the third inning in game before leaving in favor of
Lauren Powell and
Emily Price, while Loveless tossed a complete game.
Baker-Rowell and
Bri Vire both finished 3-for-6 on the afternoon.
GAME 1
- The Skyhawks picked up a run in the first inning off starter Francys King.
- King held the score at 1-0 until the third inning.
- In the top of the frame, Anayah Baker hammered a two-out home run off the scoreboard in left field.
- The 1-1 tie was short-lived as UT Martin scored seven runs in the bottom of the frame.
- Lauren Powell replaced King after three batters in the third and lasted six hitters before making way for Emily Price.
- Baker extended the game in the fifth inning with a two-out RBI double to right center.
- Trailing 9-1, the freshman ripped a ball to the base of the fence allowing Analeigh Coursey to score from first base.
- King fell to 1-1 after allowing four runs on four hits in two innings.
- Price worked the final 3.1 innings and surrendered one unearned run on four hits while fanning one.
- Baker and Bri Vire both finished game one 2-for-3 at the plate.
GAME 2
- The Skyhawks built an early 2-0 lead with a run in each of the first two innings off starter Raven Loveless.
- For the second straight game, Baker delivered the big blow for TSU with another shot off the scoreboard in left.
- UTM answered right away with two runs in the bottom of the third and added another in the fifth.
- The Tigers were unable to respond as the next 12 batters after the Baker dinger went down in order.
- Kennedy McCurry, in her second at bat of the game, snapped the skid for the Big Blue with an impressive blast to centerfield.
- The redshirt sophomore drove the ball to straight away center, clearing the 220-foot fence, and hitting off the top of the batters eye as it continued its travels.
- Loveless (2-6) was touched for five runs, three earned, as she fanned three batters with no walks.
- Bri Vire and Peyton Fointno each registered in hit in the game.

The Tigers close out the three game series with the Skyhawks on Sunday with a single game at 3:00 p.m.

- The Tigers wore gray jerseys, gray pants and blue socks.
- Lauren Powell appeared in her 107th game in the circle for TSU.
- Powell is second in program history in appearances.
- The start in game one was the first of the career for Francys King
- Anayah Baker-Rowell hit her first collegiate home run during the third inning of game one.
- Emily Price appeared in her first collegiate game and recorded her first collegiate strikeout in the fourth inning.
