Tigers Come Up Short in Rubber Match at Murray State

MURRAY, Ky. --- Tennessee State fell short at Murray State in the series finale on Saturday afternoon. The Tigers scored early, but were unable to hold the lead as MSU claimed a 3-2 win.

Marisa Mauroschadt led the TSU seven hit attack with a pair of knocks, including an RBI triple in the second inning. The drive to left center brought home Peyton Fointno for the 1-0 advantage.

An inning later, the Racers teamed for three runs off Tiger pitchers, Lauren Powell and Raven Loveless. All three runs were credited to Powell who fell to 2-7 on the season.

Ivory Jones tallied her second home run in as many days with a line drive home run that wasted no time skimming over the left field fence.

TSU's comeback was not to be as Mauroschadt and M'Lei Woodard were left on base in the seventh as the final out was made.

Mauroschadt and Kayli Mothershed singled in the teams final at bat. Woodard came on to pimch run for Mothershed.

GAME 3
  • With two outs in the second, Peyton Fointno picked up the Tigers first hit of the game with a line drive to right center.
  • Marisa Mauroschadt delivered the big blow in the inning with a triple to left center, allowing Fointno to score all the way from first.
  • After retiring the first batter of the third, Lauren Powell was touched for two hits and a walk to even the score 1-1.
  • Powell was replaced by Raven Loveless who would record an out before hitting a batter tp load the bases.
  • Loveless enticed a hard ground ball that got by a diving Analeigh Coursey at second base, allowing two runs to cross home plate.
  • All three runs were credited to Powell who gave up three hits, a walk and struck out one in 2.1 innings.
  • Loveless worked the final 3.2 innings was touched in the contest for three hits, a hit batter while fanning one to give the Tigers a chance.
  • In the Big Blue's next at bat, Ivory Jones laced the second pitch she saw over the left field fence to cut the lead to 3-2.
  • The screaming line drive dinger was the second of the series for the second-year player and her third of the season.
  • After the home run, MSU pitching sat down the next 10 batters in order until the top of the seventh.
  • With one out and trailing by one, Mauroschadt and Kayli Mothershed broke the streak with back-to-back singles.
  • The threat would end as Baker-Rowell popped out to short to end the game.
  • Powell suffered the loss and dropped to 2-7.

The Tigers close out the Ohio Valley Conference series with a single game at noon tomorrow at Murray State.
