NASHVILLEÂ --- Tennessee State was held to six hits on Wednesday afternoon as they dropped both ends of a doubleheader at Belmont. The Tigers fell 12-0 in five innings before dropping the night cap 8-0 in six.
In game one, TSU earned three hits and four walks but were unable to push a run across home plate, leaving six batters on base.
The Bruins took full advantage of their base runners, scoring 12 times on 11 hits and 11 walks off three Tiger pitchers in four innings.
The biggest blow came in the bottom of the third as Belmont sent 14 batters to the plate, scoring eight.
In game two, the Bruins scored four runs in the bottom of the first to take a 4-0 lead which was more than enough.
The Tigers were held off the base paths until the fourth inning, as
Ivory Jones picked up a two out single after the first 11 TSU batters were sat down in order.
TSU would open the sixth with back-to-back singles by
Kayli Mothershed and
Lauren Farias, but the Big Blue would strand two more runners on the day.
The Bruins responded in their half of the inning with four runs to end the game in six, 8-0.
GAME 1
- The Tigers opened with back-to-back walks by Bri Vire and Anayah Baker-Rowell.
- The duo advanced 60 feet on a sacrifice bunt by Ivory Jones, but were stranded on base.
- Trailing 1-0 in the third, Vire and Baker opened the frame with consecutive singles.
- The two moved up a base on a Savanah Wallace fly out to left field, but again were left on base.
- Belmont attacked Tiger pitching for eight runs on seven hits and four walks in the third to take a commanding 9-0 lead.
- TSU tried to respond in the fourth with a Marisa Mauroschadt single and a Kayli Mothershed walk.
- The Big Blue would be denied again, retired by an inning ending double play.
- The Bruins added three in the fourth to produce the 12-0 advantage.
- Francys King started the contest and fell to 3-2 as she was lifted after 3.1 innings.
- King returned in the fourth to face the final three batters, fanning the last two.
- The freshman was touched for four runs on five hits and four walks in three innings of work, striking out three.
- Emily Price pitched 0.1 innings and surrendered five runs on three hits and two walks.
- Kennedy McCurry tossed 0.2 frames, giving up three runs on three hits and three base on balls.
GAME 2
- Belmont jumped out early with four runs in the first off starter Raven Loveless.
- The Tigers were held hitless until Ivory Jones picked up an infield single with two outs in the fourth.
- TSU threatened in the top of the sixth with back-to-back lead off singles by Kayli Mothershed and Lauren Farias.
- Pinch runner M'Lei Woodard and Farias each advanced as Baker flew out to centerfield, only to be left stranded.
- The threat would be the last for the Tigers as BU closed out the game with four runs in the bottom of the inning.
- Loveless (2-10) took the loss working five innings and allowed seven runs on 10 hits and three walks.
- Lauren Powell pitched 0.1 innings giving up an unearned run on one hit and a walk.
- Loveless struck out two on the day, Powell fanned one.

The Tigers will travel to Richmond, Ky. for a three-game Ohio Valley Conference series with Eastern Kentucky.
NOTES:
- The Tigers wore their white jerseys with blue pants and white socks.
- Bri Vire extended her games reached streak to 14 with a walk and a hit in the opener.
- The streak came to an end in game two with an 0-for-3 outing.
