Volleyball Preview Versus SEMO

Tigers look to right the ship with weekend series versus SEMO

9/24/2021 1:09:00 PM

NASHVILLE- This weekend the Tennessee State University Tigers Volleyball Team (8-2, 0-1 OVC) will be back in action as they play a pair of games against Ohio Valley Conference rival, the Southeast Missouri State University RedHawks (9-3, 0-0 OVC). Game play action starts Friday (6pm CST ESPN+) continuing Saturday (2pm CST ESPN+) at TSU's Kean Hall. This will be the 52nd and 53rd matchup of the series with SEMO winning 43 times.

SEMO won the last matchup 3-0 October 25, 2019, at Kean Hall. This time, they'll battle against one of their former players, TSU senior Kendall Washington who recently transferred from SEMO. Washington is now one of the top Tiger players. The familiarity between Washington and SEMO may be one of the keys to this weekend's series.

"I am excited because this a big game," said Washington. "I know they know all of my strengths and weaknesses. They will try to contain me, so I am gearing up for a battle at the net. I feel like we are prepared as a team, and I look forward to getting the win."

After falling to Belmont last Tuesday in four sets, the Tigers look to get back on track against another tough opponent.

Tiger Tidbits:

  • Senior Kendall Washington will be playing against her former school. Washington played three seasons for the RedHawks.

  • These will be SEMO's first two matches this season in the OVC.

  • TSU's football team will be traveling to take on SEMO in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.

  • SEMO has won five out of their last six matches including three in a row.

  • Laney Malloy leads SEMO in kills with 193. Claire Ochos is the leader in assists with 492 and Tara Beilsmith paces the RedHawks in digs with 272.
