NASHVILLE – The Tennessee State men's tennis team fell to SEC-foe Ole Miss in a doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon. The Tigers fell, 0-7, in the first match, while the Rebels swept the second match as well, 0-4.
In the doubles portion of the first match, the pairing of
Nil Moinet (Les Abymes, Guadeloupe) and
Diego Britt Alvarez (Naples, Fla.) competed throughout but ultimately lost the set, 4-6, to Jakob Cadonau and John Hallquist Lithen.
In the singles competition,
Moinet continued to battle as the Tigers' No. 1 lost to Finn Reynolds, 4-6, 2-6, who's ranked 44th in the nation. On court #2,
Britt Alvarez fell in straight sets, 1-6, 1-6, to the 28th-best player in the country, Nikola Slavic.
The Rebels dominated the doubles competition in the second match of the day, as Ole Miss secured the victory on courts #1 and #2 by a combined margin of 12-1.
Maksims Kazijevs (Riga, Latvia) and
Daniel Perez Caraballo (Madrid, Spain) gave their opponents a run for their money on courts #5 and #6, respectively.
Kazijevs was defeated by Cadonau, 4-6, while
Perez Cababallo faced Walker Stearns and was defeated prior to the tie-break, 5-7. Neither match reached the second-set prior to the completion of competition.
