DAVIS NAMED NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK: Tatyana Davis was named the OVC Newcomer of the week after she Tatyana Davis averaged 21.0 points per game to aid the Lady Tigers to a 2-0 mark to start OVC play. Davis set a career-high with 25 points in the overtime win over Tennessee Tech on Dec. 30. She then led the team again with 17 points in a road win at Morehead State. Davis shot 64 percent from the field, 50 percent from downtown and 75 percent from the free throw line.
WHAT HAPPENED WHEN...: The win over Morehead State moved Tennessee State to 2-0 in the OVC and a 7-6 overall mark. This is the first time the Lady Tigers have started league play undefeated since the 2014-15 season under then-head coach Larry Joe Inman when the team advanced to their NCAA Tournament. The win gives TSU its seventh victory, which is the most total wins this early in the calendar since the 1994-95 team under the direction of former coach and AD Teresa Phillips. That team won seven of its first eight games plus its first two OVC contests, en route to a 22-7 margin and TSU's second appearance in the NCAA Tournament. With a win next Thursday against UT Martin, TSU has a chance to win its first three-straight OVC games since the 1993-94 season when the team won four consecutive to begin conference play. That season culminated with TSU's first-ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament under Phillips.
