NASHVILLE – The College Sports Communicators (CSC) released its Academic All-District teams last week, and TSU volleyball's Sofia Garcia-Guerrios and Gina Rivera-Ortiz both received the honor. The accolade recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. Athletes must have a 3.5 GPA or higher and serve as top contributors to their team.

Graduate student Gina Rivera-Ortiz was named to the All-OVC First Team while maintaining a 4.0 GPA in the classroom as a Health Science major. The Puerto Rico native is the all-time OVC leader in career digs with 2,628. Last season, the grad student became the all-time career leader in TSU history in digs. Her 731 digs this season also give her the single-season TSU record and ranks her third in the country. She had a season-high 37 digs against SIUE. She has been named an OVC Player of the Week seven times in her career, while also being awarded the OVC Academic Medal of honor each of the past four years.

Sofia Garcia-Guerrios carries a 3.92 GPA as a Pre-Veterinary Sciences major. The Puerto Rico native played in 31 matches for the Tigers with 31 starts. She tallied 40 kills, 523 assists, and 230 digs on the season. Garcia-Guerrios has been a starter since her freshman season and was awarded the OVC Academic Medal of Honor in 2019.

The 2022 Academic All-District® Football and Volleyball Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field or court and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes football and volleyball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.

Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First- and second-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in late December.  The CSC Academic All-District® teams include the student-athletes listed at the links above.

The Division II and III CSC Academic All-America® programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2022-23 Divisions II and III Academic All-America® programs. The NAIA CSC Academic All-America® program is partially financially supported through the NAIA national office.
