Offense Hard to Find as Football Falls to SEMO

NASHVILLE – The offense was hard to come by for the Tennessee State football team on Saturday evening, as TSU dropped its second Ohio Valley Conference game of the season to Southeast Missouri 42-0. The loss moves TSU to 3-6 (2-2 OVC).

SEMO and Geno Hess would waste no time when it came to scoring, as Hess ran for his first of three touchdowns on SEMO's second offensive play as he took a handoff 44-yards up the middle to jump out to an early 7-0 lead. The RedHawks would post two more first-half touchdowns to take a 21-0 lead into the break. The second half would see the RedHawks pile on three more scores to take a 42-0 lead with three minutes left in the fourth quarter.

The Tigers tallied 256 total yards to SEMO's 459. Draylen Ellis finished with 104 passing yards (14-of-35) with no interceptions. Zack Dobson hauled in three passes for 29 yards, while JJ Holloman, Josh Trueheart, and Karate Brenson all had two grabs a piece. Devon Starling led the TSU rushing attack with 64 yards on the ground, followed by Jalen Rouse who finished with 51 yards.

Jahsun Bryant led TSU with 12 tackles, followed by Gleson Sprewell who also finished in double digits with 10 tackles. Tadarrius Patterson finished with five tackles, two tackles for loss, and one sack, and one forced fumble. Terray Jones also collected five tackles, a tackle for loss, and a sack.

TSU will be back at home next Saturday, as they are set to host UT Martin for senior day. Kickoff from Nissan Stadium is slated for 4:00 p.m.
