BRENTWOOD, TN. – For the third straight week, the Ohio Valley Conference announced
Johanna Alcantara as the Offensive and Newcomer of the Week. In the two road victories over Southern Indiana, she led the team in kills. On Friday, she had 16 kills and swung at a .231 clip. Her three block assists gave her 17.5 points on the night. She followed that up with her season high 28 kills including seven in the decisive fifth set. Her hitting percentage was .231 and she had a season high 28.5 points.
"Jo has been a relentless around the net," said head coach
Donika Sutton. "Teams try to scheme against her, and it opens it up for others. Doing this three times in a row let's people know how consistent she has been. Our setters are working hard to get her in good scoring position and her teammates rally around her. I hope that will carry us the rest of the way."
For the season, Alcantara leads all OVC strikers with 413 kills and total points with 444.5. The Tigers will be back in action to finish the regular season off when they take on Little Rock at home on Friday and Saturday.
