Softball to Host Bellarmine for Wednesday DH

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee State softball team will host Bellarmine on Wednesday afternoon for a doubleheader beginning at 2:00 p.m. at Tiger Field.
 
The Matchup: Tennessee State Tigers (8-12, 0-0 OVC) vs. Bellarmine Knights (7-16, 0-0 ASUN)
Date/Time: Wednesday, March 16 – 2:00pm // 4:00pm (DH)
Location: Tiger Field || Nashville, Tenn.
 
Last Time Out for TSU: The Tigers were no-hit by North Florida's Halle Arends, 6-0, on Wednesday (3/9) in Jacksonville, Florida. Game two of the doubleheader against Jacksonville was cancelled due to inclement weather. Raven Loveless was the starting pitcher while Caitlyn Manus entered the game in relief. UNF's Arends, a transfer from UNLV, tossed her first career no-hitter against TSU.
 
About the Tigers: TSU's won two of the last three games, after beginning the year with three straight wins for the first time since 2011. Peyton Fointno leads the team with 15 hits, while Mikayla Duke owns a team-leading .286 batting average (14-for-49). Anayah Baker's recorded seven extra-base hits, the leader for Tennessee State in XBH and doubles (5). Baker is tied for 10th in the OVC with five doubles. Fointno, a sophomore first baseman, leads TSU with nine RBI while she leads the OVC in fielding percentage (1.000) and putouts (142). Duke and Jasmine Brown have combined for 11 stolen bases and both rank in the top 10 in the OVC. Manus has appeared in 13 games in the circle and ranks 8th in the conference in ERA (2.03).
 
About the Knights: Bellarmine dropped two games on Monday (3/14) to Tennessee Tech and Quinnipiac. TTU run-ruled the Knights in five innings, 11-3, at the Golden Eagle Classic. QU earned a nail-biter victory, 3-2, in the bottom of the seventh inning. Hannah Webb leads the team with 22 hits and six doubles. Alexis Hargrove's registered a team-best three home runs and 10 RBI. In the circle, Bellarmine goes with a three-headed rotation as Claire Lehmkuhler leads the way with 53.2 innings pitched, a 4.17 ERA and six complete games with four wins in 13 appearances.
