Manus Tosses Complete Game Shutout as Tigers Spilt DH

NASHVILLE – The Tennessee State softball team spilt the mid-week doubleheader against Bellarmine on Wednesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
TOP 4TH: The Knights began the inning with back-to-back singles and showed off their aggressiveness, moving both runners into scoring position on the second base knock. With runners at second and third, Carson Goatley helped herself with an RBI on a fielder's choice. || BU, 1-0

INSIDE THE STATS:
  • Francys King made her sixth start in the circle as the sophomore went seven innings, allowed one run on four hits, three walks and struck out five.
  • Peyton Fointno led off the seventh inning with a double down the left field line.
  • Jasmine Brown went 1-for-2 with a single and a walk to begin the game.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
  • King tossed her first complete game of 2022; the Ohio native went the distance in four games last season.
  • Brown swiped her team-leading seventh stolen base of the season.
  • BU's Goatley recorded her first seven-inning complete game shutout of 2022.

BOT 6TH:  To kickstart the inning, Jasmine Brown reached on a free-pass and stole second to advance into scoring position. Brown moved to third on a flyout and scored on an RBI single from Peyton Fointno. || TSU, 1-0

INSIDE THE STATS:
  • Caitlyn Manus made her seventh start in the circle and tossed a complete game shutout. The freshman allowed no runs on three hits, no walks and struck out five batters.
  • Peyton Fointno came through in the clutch with a go-ahead RBI single.
  • Jasmine Brown went 1-for-2 with the lone run scored, a walk and two stolen bases.
BEYOND THE BOX:
  • Manus registered her third seven-inning complete game shutout in 2022.
  • Brown added two stolen bases to her season total, increasing the team-lead to nine SB's.
  • TSU has blanked five different opponents this season.
UP NEXT: Tennessee State's set to begin Ohio Valley Conference play this weekend in Cape Girardeau, Mo. as the Tigers take on SEMO on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday's single game will begin at 3:00 p.m. while Sunday's doubleheader will start at 11:00 a.m.
