Softball Travels to Middle Tennessee State for Mid-Week Showdown

NASHVILLE – The Tennessee State softball team will travel to Middle Tennessee State on Wednesday afternoon for a mid-week showdown.
 
The Matchup: Tennessee State Tigers (9-16, 0-3 OVC) at Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders (14-15, 2-1 C-USA)
Date/Time: Wednesday, March 22 – 5:00 p.m.
Location: Blue Raider Softball Field || Murfreesboro, Tenn.

Series History: MTSU leads the all-time series, 16-8, as they've won the previous five games against TSU. From 2006-2007, the Tigers won three straight games over MTSU. The most recent meeting came on March 11, 2020 as the Blue Raiders swept the non-conference doubleheader. Raven Loveless made a start in the DH and tossed six innings, allowed five runs (four earned) on eight hits and struck out three. Lauren Farias went 1-for-4 with a walk in the two-game set.
 
About the Tigers: This past weekend, the Tigers dropped the opening OVC series at SEMO. Jasmine Brown totaled four hits in Sunday's doubleheader while Peyton Fointno logged two RBI in the final game of the weekend. Pitcher Caitlyn Manus made two starts in three games, totaling her 16th appearance of the season – tied for seventh in the OVC. Manus ranks seventh in the conference with 62.1 innings pitched. Fointno leads the team in batting average (.261), RBI (12), and tied for the team lead in doubles (5). Brown's logged a team-best 19 hits, 12 runs scored and eight stolen bases. The freshman from McDonough, Ga. is tied for seventh in the OVC in stolen bases.
 
About the Blue Raiders: Middle Tennessee State secured the series victory over Southern Miss this past weekend as the Blue Raiders took the rubber match, 6-5, in extra innings. MTSU's Claire Czajkowski scored on a wild pitch to clinch the series. Amaya Harris leads the team with 31 hits (.344 BA) and six hit-by-pitches. Harris is tied for the team lead in stolen bases (7) with Laura Mealer. Mealer leads the Blue Raiders with three home runs, two triples and ranks second with 30 hits. Anyce Harvey has registered 22 RBI and 10 doubles in 60 at-bats. MTSU has used seven different pitchers in 2022, as Gretchen Mead's appeared in 14 games and Corinna Dodd owns a team-best 55.0 innings pitched along with a 5-3 record and 2.80 ERA.
